BASIS is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of National Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury earlier today. He breathed his last at the age of 77 today morning (28th April 2020) at 4 AM at Square Hospital. (Innalillahe wa inna ilaihe razeun). He will be buried at Banani graveyard following his namaz-e-janaza after Zohr prayers.
BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said these today, On behalf of the Executive Council, Former Presidents and Members of BASIS,
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and well-wishers of Late Prof. Choudhury. His demise is an irreparable loss to the nation as his invaluable contributions in various fields such as education, structural engineering, ICT, environment and governance have already made him a national icon. We shall forever cherish his memory.
Prof Choudhury was appointed the chairman of a task force by the government for developing software export and IT infrastructure in Bangladesh from 1997 to 2000. BASIS owes its genesis to his visionary support for the creation of a software association when there were only a handful of such firms in the country. He has always been a great inspiration for the IT services industry and was a recipient of the BASIS ICT Champion Award.
At the nation mourns the passing of this national icon at a time of social distancing because of COVID-19, we pray for the salvation of the departed soul. The software and IT services industry are inexorably indebted to Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, and we shall keep him in our thoughts and prayers forever.
